- An Alternative Way To Build Your List

There is more than one way to build an optin list. One of the most successful ways of doing this is as a free safelist owner. By this I mean run your own safelist. You might ask how being a free safelist owner helps you build a list? Well the answer to that is the fact that when you run a safelist, you have access to the contact email addresses of the participants. And, as a free list, you should be able to entice members fairly easily.

But, there is more to it than that.

With the right script, you can provide services for your members, from which you can receive fees. I am thinking primarily of selling Solo ads, whereby you send ads to the contact addresses of your members for a fee. You can also sell banner ads, and other fee generating services. So, you can see that there is a lot more to running a Safelist than just providing a means for your members to advertise their own products.

One thing that is a bit of a worry with Safelists is the volume of email that is generated. It can be a problem, especially when members do not give a genuine email address, or if as usually happens, they forget to maintain these email boxes, so that all emails to that address bounce back to you.

There is also the problem of Spam. Not that anyone can have a gripe about receiving email from a Safelist, because everyone agrees to join a list and to receive messages from other members. But on balance, running a Safelist is a very worthwhile way of building a list.

However, what if a script was good enough to mitigate even these problems?

Well, there is one, and this article will continue with articles on how to install it and make the most of it.

I use one particular safelist script, which is written in PHP, and is more like an Ad Exchange rather than a conventional Safelist. The system works by people joining and then having their email address validated. This is where the similarity to conventional lists ends. The ads are held and headlines are shown to other members, who then choose which ads they would like emailed. For every ad that they read, points are added to their own account, which allows you to show YOUR ad to the other members. See, no unsolicited email at all, and no barrage of unwanted email. Excellent!

And of course, you can still sell Solo Ads or banner impression, or just additional points. So, there are several ways to raise income being a free safelist owner, but safely, and without annoying your ISP!
