How To Display RSS Feeds From Other Sites On Your Pages
Displaying RSS feeds from others sites, if they are within the theme
of your site, will give you a constant supply of fresh content. So the
search engines will love it!
The focus of this tutorial is on the use of a free script called CarP,
which will do the job for you. Click on the link, and look for the 'Free
Download' option.
The script is very easy to install, but here is a brief tutorial which
should help you.
| 1. |
It is recommended that you create a folder named "carp" to install the scripts into.
This will make it more likely that the CarP setup assistant will be able to locate it automatically.
If you are going to name it "carp", you may create it by uploading the "carp" folder from the installation
archive and its contents (see next step).
It is good security practice to install scripts like CaRP in a location that cannot be accessed directly by a web browser.
For example, if your web folder is located at "/home/joe/public_html", a good location to install CaRP would be "/home/joe/carp" rather than "/home/joe/public_html/carp".
However, if you see an error message about "safe mode", you may need to install CaRP inside your web directory

| 2. |
Upload the contents of your download into the folder that you created in the previous step. |
| 3. |
Locate and upload the file called 'carpsetup.php' to your webserver (in a location where you'll
be able to load it in your web browser).
Recommendation:
For simplicity, it is recommended that you upload it to your web root folder.
For example, if your web folder is located at "/home/joe/public_html", upload it to there. This might be called the
'www' folder when you view it in your ftp client.
|
| 4. |
Load the file carpsetup.php in your web browser.
For example, if you uploaded it to "/home/joe/public_html/carpsetup.php" and your website
address is http://www.yourdomain.com/, load http://www.yourdomain/carpsetup.php into your web
browser |
| 5. |
A number of on screen instructions will follow. Do as the program requests, and then
once you have successfully completed setup, delete the files carpsetup.php and carpsetupinc.php
from your server.

Once installed, setting up CarP is also quite straight forward. I have
used some instructions from Adrian
Ling, who is a top programmer in his own right. There is a report
in the Pro members download area (log in, and look for the item in the
menu), that explains how to use the script.
Adrian has written an excellent report called RSS
Made Easy which explains RSS and Blogging in more detail. Both work
and work well, and Adrian explains how to use both in simple, non technical
language.
There is an example of RSS in use on this site. Click on this
